Smart Inbox
The Smart Inbox is your command center for reviewing and confirming detected patterns in your financial data. It uses an email-style interface to help you quickly process recurring expenses, income patterns, and transfer matches.
Overview
When you upload transactions to CshFlow, the system automatically analyzes your data to detect:
- Recurring expenses - Subscriptions, bills, and regular payments
- Income patterns - Paychecks and regular income sources
- Transfer matches - Internal transfers between your accounts
These detected patterns appear in your Inbox for review. Confirming them helps CshFlow forecast your cash flow more accurately.
How It Works
Email-Style Interface
The Inbox uses a familiar email-style layout:
- List view shows all pending items
- Checkboxes let you select multiple items
- Quick actions appear on hover for fast processing
- Preview pane (desktop) shows details without leaving the list
Filter Tabs
Filter your inbox by type:
- All - Everything pending review
- Expenses - Detected recurring expenses
- Income - Detected income patterns
- Transfers - Detected internal transfers
Keyboard Shortcuts
For power users, the Inbox supports keyboard navigation:

Reviewing Items
Recurring Expenses
When CshFlow detects a recurring expense, you can review:
- Vendor name - Who you're paying
- Amount - How much you typically pay
- Frequency - How often the charge occurs (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly)
- Confidence - How confident CshFlow is in the detection (High, Medium, Low)
Click on an item to see transaction history and adjust details before confirming.
Income Patterns
For income patterns, you can review:
- Source - Where the income comes from
- Amount - Typical payment amount
- Frequency - How often you get paid
- Next expected date - When CshFlow expects your next payment
Confirming income patterns helps CshFlow calculate your "safe to spend until next income" amount.
Transfer Matches
CshFlow detects internal transfers like:
- Moving money between checking and savings
- Credit card payments from your bank account
- Investment contributions
Transfers are excluded from spending calculations since they don't change your total wealth.
Bulk Actions
Select multiple items using checkboxes or keyboard shortcuts, then:
- Confirm All - Accept all selected items as detected
- Dismiss All - Remove selected items from the inbox
This is useful when CshFlow correctly identifies many patterns at once.
Inbox Zero
When you've reviewed everything, you'll reach "Inbox Zero" - a satisfying state where all patterns have been processed. Your cash flow forecast is now as accurate as possible based on your data.
Tips
Review High Confidence Items First
Items marked as "High Confidence" are very likely correct. Quickly confirm these to build your forecast.
Check Low Confidence Items Carefully
"Low Confidence" items might need adjustment. CshFlow detected a pattern but isn't sure about the details.
Don't Dismiss Too Quickly
If you're unsure about an item, leave it in your inbox. You can always come back to it later.
Refresh Regularly
New patterns may be detected as you upload more transactions. Check your inbox periodically.
