Financial Accounts
The Accounts page is where you manage all your financial accounts - from checking and savings to credit cards and loans. Track balances, see the real cost of credit, and link accounts for accurate cash flow forecasting.
Overview
The accounts page helps you:
- Track all your accounts - Checking, savings, credit cards, lines of credit
- See daily interest costs - Know exactly what your debt is costing you
- Link accounts to transactions - Match transactions to their source accounts
- Project payments - Include account payments in your cash flow forecast
Adding Accounts
Connect Your Bank (Recommended)
Use Plaid to securely connect your bank for automatic balance syncing:
- Click "Add Account" in the top right
- Select "Connect Bank"
- Choose your financial institution
- Sign in with your bank credentials
- Select which accounts to link
Add Manually
For accounts you prefer to track manually:
- Click "Add Account"
- Select "Add Offline Account"
- Enter account details:
- Account name
- Account type (checking, savings, credit card, etc.)
- Institution name
- Last 4 digits (for matching transactions)
- Current balance
- For credit cards: credit limit, interest rate, minimum payment, due day
Account Types
Chequing & Savings
- Track your cash on hand
- Set as primary account for cash flow calculations
- Balances update automatically with connected banks
Credit Cards
- See your balance and available credit
- View utilization rate (balance vs credit limit)
- Track daily and monthly interest costs
- Set payment due dates for forecasting
Lines of Credit
- Similar to credit cards but often with lower rates
- Track available credit and balance
- Include in debt payback planning
Understanding the Accounts Table
Each account shows key information at a glance:
| Column | Description |

| Account | Name and institution |
| Balance | Current balance |
| Limit | Credit limit (credit accounts only) |
| Available | Available credit remaining |
| Rate | Annual interest rate |
| Daily Cost | How much interest accrues each day |
| Payment | Minimum payment and due date |
| Status | Payment status (paid, due soon, overdue) |
Payment Status
The status column shows whether you've made your minimum payment this month:
- Paid - Payment detected this month
- Due Soon - Payment due within 7 days
- Overdue - Past the payment due date without a payment
- Not Due - No payment required yet
Account Settings
Click on any account to edit its settings:
Include in Projections
Toggle "Include in Cash Flow" to:
- Include minimum payments in your spending projections
- Factor account payments into your daily spending limit
- Show payment due dates on the calendar
Match Transactions
If you have transactions that should be linked to an account:
- Click the account
- Select "Match Transactions"
- Review and confirm transaction matches based on last 4 digits
The Payback Machine
At the top of the accounts page, you'll see a banner linking to the Payback Machine. This feature helps you:
- See the total cost of your debt over time
- Create an optimized payback plan
- Compare payback strategies (avalanche vs snowball)
- Track progress toward becoming debt-free
Managing Balances
Automatic Updates
Connected accounts sync automatically:
- Balances update daily
- New transactions are imported
- Payments are detected automatically
Manual Updates
For offline accounts or corrections:
- Click the balance amount
- Enter the new balance
- Press Enter or click away to save
Tips for Using Accounts
Keep Balances Current
Accurate balances lead to accurate cash flow projections. Update offline accounts regularly or connect them for automatic syncing.
Set Up All Credit Accounts
Adding your credit cards and loans helps CshFlow:
- Calculate your true daily spending room
- Warn you about upcoming payments
- Show the real cost of carrying debt
Use Transaction Matching
When you add an account with the last 4 digits, CshFlow can automatically match it to transactions in your history. This helps categorize and track spending by account.
Review Payment Status
Check the accounts page weekly to ensure:
- Payments are being detected correctly
- No payments are showing as overdue
- Minimum payment amounts are accurate
